Week 4 in South Africa

The polo match defies description in many ways but in keeping with my website's tagline, I'll give it a quick go. The place dripped money, and it wasn't even a Pretty Woman-type tournament. I did wear a sun dress just in case. The spectators consisted of about 10 cars parked on a steep rise overlooking the field. It was evidently a very exclusive New Year's Eve invite. We sat on the grass and watched what seemed to be mostly 19-20 year old guys gallop around and around. Some had been flown in from Europe and Argentina to play. I heard one chatting up a girl, she asked if the poor horses were OK. ...

I’m in Africa!
Category: Lazer Helmets, Rev3, Winter Training, enjoy the blog, my favourite | 4 Comments
I arrived in South Africa nearly a week ago now, after throwing together papers and grades and getting the heck out of Siberia Colorado.
It's amazing, I am so happy I came! Honestly the only disappointment thus far was that on the plane from Amsterdam to Cape Town we had a real-time map of where we were and I slept through Libya. How boring of me to miss it!
Here's a rough description of the week:
I am in Stellenbosch, in the Western Cape province, where Dan Hugo lives when he's not in Boulder. On Friday I went with Dan and 5 other guys over to a town called George, also in this province but a good day's drive away. We ...

All the writing I've done on here over the past 3.5 years would be a lot more useful if I could just adopt a "daily epiphany" writing style. Something happens, I internalize and analyze and awesomize it, there is a moral, everyone on South Park is friends again and Kenny un-dies. But evidently I just can't be bothered. Which is why I have spent the past hour scouring my site for a blog post that could be tweaked into my dreaded "personal history of opportunities and disadvantages" application essay... no dice.
I did find a couple cool photos though!

I’m going to HAWAII! (again?!)
Category: family, my favourite | 12 Comments
This is my somewhat cryptic way of informing you all that I WON the Xterra 10k today!! I am so excited!
The nitty gritty: I led from the gun, so I have no idea how many women were there or if any of them were any good. And if you are wondering about the outcome of the first debate of the day on Thursday: I wore my black Adidas running shorts that are too big, a long-sleeve Craft mock turtleneck base layer in Raspberry that my mom gave me last Christmas, my orange tempo trainers (appropriate for Fall), my Powerbar visor, Soap and Glory Sexy MotherPucker lip gloss, and my favourite ring. No earrings cause the ...

I'm sitting here in Incline trying to come up with the best way to condense all of the weekend's cool news and reportage into a decent blog post. This is feeling especially hard because a. I am still tired and b. I am really aware that my blog was WAY BETTER AND INTERESTING-ER back when I was a bike racer. Check out most of 2007 in the archives if you don't believe me. So, this post was supposed to get me back on the better-and-interestinger track but I dunno. Here goes...
First off, I won the bike! Fastest male and female bike splits at USAT Age Group Nationals won a new Blue Triad TT frame as well as an ...

My Sunday Evening
Category: cool stuff, family, four-leggeds, my favourite | 4 Comments
Fun with a scanner and some old photos... If you are my facebook friend, perhaps you saw these there, or if you are like my mom and you are on facebook but you have no idea how to use it, perhaps this is a better venue ;)
Also, I have *no idea* why this gallery suddenly shoved the preceding posts down to the bottom of the page, yet another mystery courtesy of WP.org and IE 7 I am guessing, and I am stymied. I tried to fix it and now it's even worse of course. So, for now, until I call in the experts, just scroll down... sorry!

#500!
Category: enjoy the blog, family, in my opinion, ma says..., my favourite | 4 Comments
This is the 500th post I have written since I started this blog in May of 2006... Since today can be summarized in just a few words (overslept, it's snowing, s'posed to snow more, kitty says hi), today's post will instead be a little Courtenay's Blog Recap for those of you who weren't here from the beginning (which is probably everyone except my mom... took me a while to start posting daily with gory details all about my fascinating life!)-I got engaged. (warning: from a gossip standpoint, it's all downhill from here...)-I got famous.-I stopped being engaged.-I started documenting conversations with Mom. (see more ...

Ups and Downs
Category: enjoy the blog, my favourite, quotables | 7 Comments
I guess it was about time to have a "down" sort of day, since everything's been going so well lately. I am going to cheer myself in a public sort of forum with a few random quotes I have been saving up...Bike Racers on Triathlon Logistics:"So after you finish the swim part, do you like really quick change into your skinsuit and then jump on your TT bike or what?"How Annoying Words Like "Booyah!" Come Into Existence"Instead of 'ginormous' I am going to start saying 'egantic'. So it's enormous plus gigantic, instead of gigantic plus enormous. Whaddaya think??""Hm. What's wrong with just saying 'big'?"Not Everything Soft is a Kitty"I am snuggling something ...

Camp!
Category: enjoy the blog, ma says..., my favourite, quotables | 1 Comment
I am at training camp, after what felt like the world's longest two days at the end of the world's longest week. I can't believe that the Super Bowl was 8 days ago, or that Super Tuesday was six days ago.Pics tomorrow of the sweetest pad in all of Healdsburg and wine country, and pics of the 11 cutest blue-spandex clad butts! But first, my favourite quotes of the trip thus far:During Sunday Night Out In The City With Good Friends:Steve: ... so anyway my roommate is totally fucking nuts. He fucking calls the five hot nursing students who live upstairs to bitch when they play their stereo in the kitchen or when ...

Christmas Eve!
Category: enjoy the blog, family, four-leggeds, my favourite | 1 Comment
Last night might have been my favourite Christmas Eve in years! We had 20-25 people, including a couple of ridiculously cute kids who sadly are of no relation to me, although the little boy is named Nathaniel just like my brother. And for you horse-racing fans out there, his dad is trainer Scott A. Lake. Paula was here and gave us the scoop on the Hollywood writer's strike and the extent to which reality shows are really scripted. And lots of people were somehow enthralled with my tri-geek talk... Speaking of which, enough yammering, on to the photos:...
