So last time I updated my blog, my doctor had just diagnosed me with piriformis syndrome and a probable labral tear in my right hip. After two diagnostic injections and an MRI, my diagnosis has been refined. There's cartilage damage in my hip. It's been really painful, and has gotten worse in that it hurts alllll the time, no racing or even training needed. Plus I get the impression from my doctor and the internet that this is a slightly bigger deal than a labral tear in terms of long-term consequences, so I've opted to try to fix it surgically. I'm heading in on October 31. I'm told to expect to be non-weight bearing for at least 6 weeks, depending ...
Sometimes policies need to be revisited/revised. This is something I learned in policy class this semester (ahem, and learned well enough to get an A, so I'm an expert), but really it's something I'm practicing in my own life. Because when you're 32 and single... ...you might start wearing heels again. ...$183 of makeup at MAC? Consider it an investment in looking like an adult. For teaching and conferences and stuff.** ...and you might take my sister's policymaking advice: drop the Wooderson routine. I get older, boyz stay the same age, bad bad bad! ...
On Saturday I went to see The Gaslight Anthem play in Denver. I'd bought two tickets a month or so ago, in hopes that my little sister would fly out to see our favorite band and, oh, side bonus, her favorite bigger sister named me, but she couldn't make it. I halfheartedly searched for a replacement, but how can I replace my sister? Plus I don't know anyone else who loves Gaslight as much as we do, or who claims to know all the words to all the songs and sings as badly as we do. So I went by myself and gave the other ticket away ...
I know I'm a little late in reporting, but The Gaslight Anthem show (on Wednesday night at Showbox at the Market) was completely awesome. Here is their list of tour dates. Honestly it was the best show I have seen in years, I know I was raving about Franz Ferdinand a few weeks ago (also FYI the more I think about it, the more I liked Modest Mouse's set) but this was even better, if that's possible. I loved the music of course but what really made it extra awesome was that these guys obviously love what they do. They were having as much of a blast ...
So my 5.5 year old laptop made a solid bid for its retirement a couple of days ago, in the form of a failing video card. I'm actually typing on it right now, since it's not completely dead (yet), but if I am lacking in my usual verbal clarity and awesomeness it's because I'm typing through flashing blue and yellow rows of miniature vertical houndstooth patterns that look like those Magic Eye pictures where you had to cross your eyes to see the dancing purple lion. Ugh. On the positive front, I got a sweet deal on a refurbished MacBook Pro!! I've been obsessively checking my order status all ...
