Well, I’ve been funneling most of my writing energies towards my next Inside Tri column, but I’m taking a brief break from that to post some news. Not to be confused with the brief breaks for watching ‘Good Hair’, going to the Apple Store (ugh), popping upstairs to see what Dan is doing, photographing Dan on Shelby’s scooter for an article he wrote for a magazine in Sthafrica (authentic pronunciation), yelling at spiders that they are stupid and need to get out of my bathroom (it doesn’t work well), and:
Yesterday I had a Muscle Restoration Therapy session with Josh at Tri-Massage. Rather than just doing standard massage, which, his standard massage is a pretty high standard, I have switched over to MRT. With MRT you do functional tests on the muscles and then address the root of what isn’t working. For me, you don’t really even need to do tests to see that I have a lot of imbalances – they show up in photos and in my general carriage, not to mention my list of injuries. My left back is weak, shoulder is weak, right hip is weak, which travels down to my knee and my achilles that I tore last year. But doing the tests during and after treatment is like magic! Things work!
So anyway Josh worked on me for an hour yesterday. At the end of it, my back wasn’t hurting (except the part where he dugggggggggg in and I yelped), my hip wasn’t tight, my right leg wasn’t shorter than the left one, and I came home with a flotilla of exercises.
So far so good – I swam my fastest 100 ever at the pool this morning, after swimming my fastest 75′s ever, before my fastest 300 ever. For the 100m I did a 1:33! That converts to 1:25 in yards! My previous best was 1:27, at sea-level, so correcting 5% for being at altitude, I *practically* swam a 1:21 100y. Big news for this slow-lane girl. I kept getting confused on my sendoff because I was coming in faster than I expected! My stroke felt weird, I felt like I could make my arms move in ways they couldn’t before, and my lats are sore. Dan says that means I actually used them.
PROGRESS! Thanks Josh!

Nice job on the swimming. I get confused on the send off all the time too….and I’m not coming in faster than I think I am.
Well, hello swimmer!
I just get confused on send off times in general. That’s why it’s nice to have someone else lead. Sounds like your turning into a swimmer!
Sounds like your body is super happy to be rebalanced!
