I am approaching the two-week mark of compromised training due to infection. I had hoped to start riding my bike again tomorrow, but my saddle sore is still there. A lot smaller, but still there. I was hoping to race the Seafair Triathlon a week from today, but I am not sure I’ll be able to. Honestly what I was really hoping for was to [finally] arrive at a race feeling confident that I could podium. But I guess I will have to postpone that hope until a later date, grr.
I did get to race on Friday though! Ben and I headed down to Lake Meridian for an open water swim race put on by Raise the Bar. Most people raced in wetsuits, but Ben and I opted to wear somewhat matching Splish suits. Rainbow Brite and Unicorn Planet. Of course I do not have a photo. (And Seafair has prize money… motivation for a new camera… grr.) Ben did the 2.4 mile race, and I did the 1.2 mile race. My two goals were to 1. swim faster than my previous non-wetsuit 1.2 mile swim and 2. beat Ben out of the water. Which, since he planned to do his swim in 50 minutes, and my race started 10 minutes after his, and I hoped to god I could please go under 40 minutes, I knew it was going to be tight.
I did a 40:11, Ben did a 50:12.
YESSS!

Vineman in <1 week. It’s like the 2 year anniversary since we met and you met ben, but not really. I hope to swim faster tha 40. especially since it may have some running portion during the swim.
Is Vineman non-wetsuit? You should head over to Collins Manor for some OW practice with us!
That’s great Court!
it is thankfully a wetsuit swim - actually pretty nice, not too hot, not too cold and the banks of the river are about 2 yards away - so it’s sort of helpful in sighting. They say there is ‘no current’ but really, can you have a river with ‘no current’. No, that’s called a lake or a bathtub or a cespool.
ummmm Mr. Lorpeedo remember that running around the buoy at vineman could potentially cause major foot cutting. Besides I swam faster than people ran and that water is WAY TOO WARM for a wetsuit it’s been near 100 degrees for the last week up there.
I totally bruised my feet last year with all of the river rock running I did. No idea on the water temp - as long as it’s 78 or cooler, I’m ok.
