Check my sidebar

This is the trip where I finally decide to break my laptop habit. I didn't bring it! Short trip, plenty to do (although I should have brought at least a magazine or better yet a book) and the computer is heavy and a giant lap-heating time suckage of gossipping etc.
I decided to be rugged and brave! Only an iPod and iPhone.
Of course this is also the trip where there's no cell reception for miles around! Yet there is wireless, thank god. It still counts as roughing it tho since I am typing all this on my phone.
All this is a long-winded way of saying you can read all about the weekend's excitement on my right sidebar's twitter feed.

Getting Ready

Gasp! Where was my Nutrition?!
I have two big trips coming up. First is Wildflower, followed very closely by my 6 week sojourn in the seventh state of the union, Land named after some chick called Mary. Woo!
Wildflower prep is going pretty well. After Oceanside, where incidentally I cramped pretty badly on the run, I realized I need to improve my nutrition setup on the bike. Food and water. I was about to buy a highly highly dorky bento box, I procrastinated though because I am a cheapskate rather than a dork. Well. The other day I ...

My week is starting off awesome
Category: enjoy the blog | 6 Comments
I am getting really bored of my swimming travails. This time last week, I was still trying to recover from a swim attempt in a 95 degree pool. Then the rest of the week I either felt like absolute crap in the water (which believe me, crap for me is REALLY crappy) or spent 3x longer than I should have driving around town trying to find a pool that was open, not 95 degrees, and didn't demand exact change for lap swim. One thing I am looking forward to about spending six whole weeks at my mom's (OMG did I really sign up for that) is there is one giant pool in the area, and it has lap swimming ALL ...

Big news everyone: I got my email about housing for Wildflower and I am staying in a house with ALL BOYS!! Seven guys plus me. I'm sharing a rental car with Chris so I asked to be placed in his house and there you go. Me plus seven guys.
I'll be traveling with my camera, as well as 4 nail polishes and a base/top coat in case if any of my housemates wants to take part in my pre-race mani-pedi ritual. I'll also be sure to pack some proper pj's.

I’m sooooooooo hot
Category: enjoy the blog | 2 Comments
This morning Ben and I decided it would be so cool to do our swim workouts in a giant huge hot tub.
It was not so cool, it sucked, and it really wasn't our idea. The furnace broke or something and was on permanent overdrive (Ben actually blogged about it already), we gave it a go in the 95 degree water for a while and I was the one who wussed out first. It was just so hot. And I'm supposed to be working on my technique, but I can't work on technique when all my muscles want to do is dog paddle as slow as possible to the other end of the glorified hot spring.
We ...

What does the Bald Eagle say

I finally decided to use the Twitter account I got last July. Follow me. I'm being awesome (as you can see to the right).
I'm a little bit sick. My throat started hurting 1 hour into my ride yesterday, then my cough got extra-atrocious and now I'm sneezing and taking the day off and "driving Ben crazy" (he lies). So I won't hit the 42 miles of running this week that I was bragging about on Thursday, oh well. I finished the week on a good note at least, yesterday a few friends and I launched the "Rock-ette" Ride, because the infamous Rocket Ride is postponed until November, and we wanted a group ride with ...

And then I found $20

So much has happened!
I filed for an extension on my taxes. Which was necessary but a little bit stupid, because I always get money back (except in 2002 when I thought the higher the number you claimed on your W-whatever, the more money they took out of your paycheck), so basically by filing an extension I am postponing the day when I get a check in the mail. But I don't have all the info I need to complete my taxes.
Thankfully though, in the money department, I have secured a job for the time I will be spending in Maryland! Major phew, I haven't gotten a paycheck since November and it's gotten to the point where a half-off Von Zipper ...

I saw it

As much as I'd love all my website visitors to admire my finisher's photo below from now until forever, I'm guessing it's about time I post some more current news up here if I want to maintain any sort of readership :D .
Ben and I just watched Slumdog Millionaire, I'd been resisting for a while because I was on a high horse about "yet aNOTHer year when the gay movie doesn't win even though it should have". But now that I've seen it, and I saw Milk, and I saw both Crash and Brokeback Mountain, and since I was in the Cinematheque* club my first two years at U.Va. and therefore I have good opinions about movies, I ...

Ooo not bad. Thanks Splish!
Yay for the Finish!
I have tons of other interesting news:
-I saw a bald eagle yesterday while I was running, and one the day before flying over the freeway with some dumb crow chasing him. I have seen a bunch of eagles now but it never gets boring, and apparently (I'm told), I always point and yell "BALD EAGLE BALD EAGLE!" even if I am the one driving.
-Ben and I are taking care of the dog. She's a little unhappy about it, because we don't subscribe to the "give the dog a treat whenever it ...

Who’s going to Eagleman 70.3?

I am!
I'm so excited. I'll be in Maryland from May 5 through June 16!
It's actually a very fortunate confluence of events. My mom lives in Maryland. She's going to Morocco for a week in May and needs someone to feed the horses. She has an award ticket on Delta. The dates I wanted were available. Ben is going to be traveling and racing for 3 weeks in May (and we all know how much I LOVE being in Seattle without him). My little sister is going to be home from school on June 6. My Dutch niece will be visiting my mom for the first two weeks of June. I haven't seen her in 8 years! And, ...
