So I'm pretty much packed for Oceanside. I did most of it in my aero helmet, for safety reasons (I run into things a lot) and for fashion reasons (after minor debate, I will be racing with two low ponytails on Saturday). I've been feeling kind of negative about this race, in case if you hadn't noticed, but I'm starting to come around. Two days of 11 hours of sleep plus a nap have me feeling a little more recovered, and then all my race preparations today started to get me excited to race and excited for this season. Yay :D ! (There's the promised exclamation point-smiley face!). ...
As of this past January, my car became officially mine. Yay! No more car loan! But lately I'd rather it weren't mine. It's behaving like a piece of junk, or like me when I was a bratty teenager. Running out of antifreeze, choosing to skid on an uphill in the rain rather than going forward like it's supposed to, and yesterday/today, random freak car-alarm outbreaks. UGH. The neighborhood hates me and my car for that one. It was probably definitely my fault for putting the alarm fob through the wash (it was in my jeans pocket) but still it's really annoying. I should keep my bikes that are for sale and sell the car instead. In other news, everything sucks and ...
I just got a few pairs of shoes and some other necessities from Brooks. No big deal, right? I run quite a bit so obviously I get new shoes fairly regularly. BUT. This shipment is exciting because they are all NEW models and they are all awesome! Thus their arrival and maiden runs are blog-worthy. Infiniti 2, ST Racer 4, and Ghost Infiniti 2: I've been training in the first generation of this shoe for about a year now. Version 2 has the features I loved from the old shoe (minimal difference between forefoot and ...
I miss Spring Break already! Look how much fun we had! [album=9,extend]
Scare (formally known as Sarah but I never call her that) and I are sitting at Kaimana Beach, getting in a final couple hours of sun before heading to the airport. Than went to work today, after taking the past two days off to nurse his broken collar bone and to tell his two best sisters where to put his TV, couch, heavy other thing, etc. Did I mention he's in the process of moving? Ugh. Driving his car has been stressing me out. Here is a sampling of comments from the peanut gallery while I'm behind the wheel: "Don't turn the wheel all the way you'll bald the tires" "Stop feathering the gas" "Stop feathering the brakes" "Feel free to shift gears" "Did you forget ...
Ben left for Australia today, which probably means I'll blog a little more frequently - we tend to be bad for each others' blogs when we're together. Anyway today after he left I rode to Kapiolani Park to watch my brother play lacrosse. Sarah and I love watching Than play, he's really good and that means we get to say "yay Than!" a lot. Today though we were more like "oh shit! Than!" because some guy pushed him from behind (so illegal) and the fall snapped Than's collarbone. It totally sucked. We had fun hanging out in the emergency room, and I get to drive his super fancy super precious car (which up till today I wasn't even allowed to ...
Technically, actually, it's Hi from Tantalus! Diamond Head is in the background. I've been doing lots of training and hanging out here in Hawaii, and pretty much no internet-ing. It's been awesome.
My sister and I made it to Hawaii! As did the cobbler. We shortened its name to just "cobbler" because we got to have a bite and it was pretty delicious. We are staying on the Ala Moana end of Waikiki. Good location for all... Sarah can beach and shop while Ben and I train, and my brother's job site is only a few blocks from our place. This morning Ben and I went for an open water swim at Ala Moana Beach Park, which is a little over a mile away. We ran there and back, joining the holiday parade for part of it. I fit right in, wearing just my St. Patty's Day Splish suit and my Brooks trainers. ...
So I installed the wordpress app on my phone and now I can blog while I'm delayed in the airport! Yay! spriiiiIIIIINNNNGGGG BREAK starts today. My little sis and I are off to Hawaii to visit the two most important men in our lives, our brother Than, and Ben!! But the plane needs a part so we are in the Seattle airport for an extra five hours being bored and hungry and reading the Michelle Obama Vogue (a very well-spent $5, by the way). We are ALSO fighting over who gets to carry Ben's peach cobbler. Who gets to not carry it, I mean, and we are actually referring to it as the "fucking cobbler that better be delicious and that he better ...
Today I accidentally spent 4.5 hours on my time trial bike. Accidentally because I didn't expect it to be that long, I tried out a new route that I mapped out myself based on what looked like it might be flat (I guessed OK on that one), take me around 3.5 hours (not really), and have horses along the way (success!). I almost rode to Canada! It was awesome! Such a gorgeous ride! AND, and and and, I have never ever spent more than 4 hours on my TT bike! This is a new personal record! I couldn't have done ...
