But first off, a bit of news: I added a For Sale page to my site, it's very exciting and you should check it out. So today, the Beast and I went on our maiden voyage! One hour, woooo... And it was a success! I could reach the shifters. My feet could reach the pedals. We had all 10 gears on the cassette at our disposal. We even had power, speed, and cadence readings on the SRM, thanks to Zac at Cascade Bicycle Studio. Once I sell my stuff for sale I'm totally going back to that shop, it's beautifully laid out (do recall that I'm a snob) and Zac is the best mechanic I've been ...
Yesterday morning I went swimming. To be honest I was kind of hating it from the time my alarm went off at 4:23 a.m. until about 5:55, at which time I realized that swimming didn't totally suck and neither did I (plus I only had 5 minutes of swimming left :D ). Sweet! Then I got home and enjoyed breakfast while watching a spooky dawn around Mt. Rainier. I seem to take a lot of photos of Mt. Rainier. It's pretty, and I like when you can see its reflection in Lake Washington. Mt. Rainier has a loooooong way to go before it catches up with Mr. Cutest Cuddly ...
Last week, I mentioned my Lean1 smoothie that I made at camp. My teammates confirmed what I already knew, which is that my smoothie is delicious! It tastes like a brownie sundae but is a little better for you ;) . Here it is: Brownie Sundae Recovery Healthiness! 2 scoops Cookies n Cream Lean1 1 large Banana (either fresh or frozen) 1/2 cup frozen Blueberries 1/4 cup nonfat plain Yogurt 1/2 cup nonfat Milk 6 ice cubes 1/2 cup water I put it all in the blender and voila... recovery! This recipe makes about 3.5 cups, enough to share with your workout partner OR you can be like me and have the whole thing yourself. Here's the basic nutrition breakdown: 462 calories (give or take a ...
I have a collection of trivialities that I've tried three times now to coalesce into a blog post. I could give up but actually some of it's cool. Today I returned my U-Haul. On Friday I had intended to empty it and return it, but ugh I was so tired and therefore did neither. On Saturday I'd intended to return it after I took Ben's mom with me to empty it and put everything into my storage unit, but ugh I was so tired. So today, even though it would have been sooooo nice to just stretch and nap after my training, I sucked it up and drove ALL THE WAY OVER to the U-Haul place. It took for forEVER. Actually, ...
Yesterday I drove a U-Haul from San Rafael to Seattle. The day before that, which I think was Wednesday, was the day we left VAC Camp, and that was also the day that Kelly helped me load all my stuff into the U-Haul. I actually don't have an overwhelming amount of stuff, the 14' truck was way bigger than what I needed, but it was the smallest size that had a loading ramp. Yay for the ramp! We were able to gossip the whole time we packed without missing a beat. The downside though was that the truck got 8 miles to the gallon for 823 miles. ...
Today was our final day of camp. It was raining again, we're joking that the whole team is going to switch to triathlon because it feels like we've been swimming on our bikes all week long! But we headed out for a team ride anyway. Chrissy and I both ordered Showers Pass Roadie Pants (not on their website for some reason? anyways...) and they are FANTASTIC. They are designed to be an inclement weather training pant for serious cyclists - I have ridden in standard plastic rain pants before and they are annoying for long rides, I get wet anyway and they are bulky. The Roadie pants breathe really well and kept me warm and comfortable, it ...
Today, much like the previous ones, was a loooong and wet one... At the end of which, look what happened!!!!!!!!!!:
We've been so busy! Beautiful day in Sonoma County On Thursday, we had gorgeous weather for our 77 mile ride. The sun was out, temperatures were perfect, and the route was amazing. All I did was ride that day because we had a jam-packed schedule... we rode early and then all really quick showered and ate and got organized for our meet-and-greet at Village Peddler and then our drive down to Morgan Hill. It was around 150 miles of driving, because Healdsburg is at the far North end of the greater Bay Area, and Morgan Hill is at the ...
Today was a rainy one hear at Team VAC Camp in Healdsburg! Unlike in Seattle, where it's been 40 and rainy, it was more like 50 and rainy, so: TOTALLY trainable. I started off with a swim at the nearby Healdsburg Swim Center, which has an outdoor 25 meter pool. (Not pictured to the left - that's our house pool!). I had a great workout, enjoying rain on my shoulders and then gradually seeing the clouds clear and then return. I'm hoping I get at least one sunny day so I can wear one of my new Splish bikinis! Then we had a 3 hour team ride on ...
Everyone is watching American Idol in the other room, we just had our first team meeting and got all our clothing and had dinner and GOT OUR NEW SPECIALIZED BIKES. If I weren't so tired, I'd post photos for all you gearheads out there. Be ready to drool, maybe tomorrow or the next day ;) I'm off to bed but first, funny story of the day... a few girls headed out to ride this morning, Leah got a later start and planned to find the others on the road. She saw a group of blue riders heading towards her, assumed it was the other girls, and started zig-zagging and goofing off as she approached them. She headed straight for ...
