Whoa, someone totally hacked into my site yesterday and wrote a really whiny blog, OMG. What is some peoples’ problem.
Anyway today was another sunny and beautiful winter day in Seattle. I started my ride with the Herriott Sports Performance drop ride, known as the “Rocket Ride” and I think this is a VERY appropriate name for reasons that are kind of PG-13 or maybe R: it’s 98% boys, everyone attacks out of the stoplights, more than a few ride their race wheels, there is a climb starting at mile 3 so there is not much of a warmup because real men don’t ride warmup pace up a hill, you might get my drift here… Anyway I swore off this ride a few weeks ago but today I was hungry for some socializing and I thought that after my rest week I’d surely find the, um, “warmup” pace reasonable. WRONG.
I soon split off on my own instead, on the only loop I know but it’s my favourite because there is a little dirt section that always makes me smile and feel like a ‘crosser. I do enjoy solo rides, I get to work on my pacing, listen to new music I download at home, let my mind wander, and get home to the same place I left but in a completely different place inside.
Soon though, I will have my favourite group of girls to ride with!!!
Because, in a little over a week, I’m leaving for Team VAC training camp in Healdsburg, CA! I am excited for lots of reasons – we’ll be doing lots of good hard riding, getting our 2009 clothing and equipment, doing some sponsor events (including a day at Specialized!!), and best of all, having a week-long slumber party! This year, we’re adding a couple of public events to our schedule. On Thursday, February 12, we’ll be doing a “Meet the Team” event at Village Peddler, located in Larkspur, CA, at 4:30 p.m. You should come!!! Then on Sunday, February 15, my teammate Leah Goldstein and I will be doing a group ride from NorCal Bike Sport in Santa Rosa. I don’t have full details on this ride but I will post them once I know, I’d love to ride with some of my blog readers. AND, in case I am not enough of a draw, Leah is pretty much one of the most fascinating people I have ever met so you should at least come and meet her! Then after the ride, at 1 p.m., we’ll be watching our teammates race the Tour of California Women’s Criterium in Santa Rosa, which precedes the mens’ stage finish later that afternoon.
In the meantime, to get ready for camp, I’m painting my nails and making mix CD’s and planning what to do with my hair for team photo day and doing lots of cycling so I’m ready to mix it up with the real bike racers.

If it’s any consolation, I was equally motivated for the “warm-up” pace! I did have fun chatting for the 5 minutes to the hill though. Beyond that I was too busy franticly trying to stuff oxygen into my lungs to talk anyway.
You know – the kitties and I are cheering for you. Sounds like today was better than that other day. Or thingy. What about selling some of your art work?? You’re very talented… have you ever thought about that?? The world needs more creative thinking feeling people to make it a better place, and I nominate YOU! Hooray for camps. That’s something to be very happy about!
Goody! Courtenay is coming to town! Glad to see the smiles are back
Sounds like a great week. I am sure you will have lots of fun. Keep us posted.
Hi there, no worries…47 days will go by so fast. My fiancee and I don’t see each other for 3 months at a time…all the time…he is a Pro Cyclist, I am a Pro Triathlete…on top of that I am a German citizen and he is American…so we can only spend 90 days in each other’s countries
21 more days for me until I get to see him (haven’t seen him since November-no holidays together:-(
You are coming to my town!
When are you visiting Specialized?
