Yesterday, I moved. I drove down the mountain with all my stuff (the stuff that I actually want anyway) in a U-Haul, with the Civic in tow, I put all the stuff into a storage unit, and I took Kitty to Liz’s house. She has officially taken over in “OOOO you are SO CUTE. I am going to pick you up and KISS you!!! You ARE a Kitty!” duties, for now at least. It all took me about 5 hours longer than I ambitiously expected it to, other than that everything went incredibly smoothly. I didn’t even have to hook up, back up, or otherwise deal with the “auto transport” a.k.a. car trailer!!! On both ends, the U-Haul guys took one look at me and decided that breaking the company’s liability policy would make things much easier/safer for everyone involved and all I had to do was drive my car onto and off of the trailer. Yay for being a girl!
Now I am back in Incline to clean the apartment and take all my unwanted stuff to Goodwill – so technically, I am not done moving, but the stressful part is over with and now I just have good things to look forward to!
I feel like the loneliness and resignation that settled into my body a year ago when I got to Incline is suddenly gone. Despite being (nearly) unemployed and having to forward my mail to my mom’s address in Maryland thanks to a state of transience that will last for at least another month, I feel so much more relaxed and happy than I have in a long time. It’s awesome.
Completely unrelatedly: iTunes Genius is not smart, it’s dumb. For one thing it’s “not available” for any of my illicitly-acquired music, only for like the stuff I imported from CD’s I got in college and even High School! I don’t want to Genius stupid “Throwing Copper” or “Rhythm is a Dancer”! For another thing, how is it that MIA gets Geniused onto any possible genre of song I pick? I am sick of her! She used up her “new and cool” factor like 3 years ago! Sigh. In DJ’ing, as with anything else except “auto transport” when you are a girl, if you want it done right you have to do it yourself…

OMG.
Did you make that graph yourself??? I am totally stealing it. It’s awesome.
Where are you moving to? Did I miss somehting? Now I’m gonna have to go back and did through your old posts to uncover the mystery.
p.s. HI!!!
I haven’t commented on your blog before, although I’ve been lurking for a little while (via other tri blogs I’ve picked up as reading material), but I wanted to wish you luck and I hope you enjoy the state of transience. I’m about to go through a similar thing, although I will be moving all my things into my parents’ house for December and don’t know where (other than their couch) I will end up in January.
I also had to tell you the cat graph is hilarious … and so true. My cat makes me a crazy cat lady sometimes.
Good luck cleaning!
i am back. now you come back down the mountain!
I love the graph! Totally works for doggies too…
I hope your the rest of your move continues to go well.
That picture is classic (and ohhhhhhhhhhh so true). Why do we turn into retards around our pets?
Congrats on the move (at least the start of it). You’re on your way to a new beginning!
What do you mean “inane”?!@?? He /IS/ a KITTEH OMG! AND HE IS SUOOOO CUTE! I lurves him and skweezes him and kisss him.
I can’t believe he puts up with it…
[...] weekend I acquired a furry, little visitor. Courtenay is “loaning” me her cat. Kitty is vastly more clever than the dog, and quite adorable. We are all loving Kitty. But, [...]
Hey Court, Did you get my emails? You can stay here if you want. I didn’t know Kitty wasn’t coming along. Sorry.
I just spent 10 minutes trying to decide if I should point out that my cat died the same weekend I met you, and since then it’s you have reminded me of that exactly 1,274 times. Or if I should tell you to stop flirting with the UHaul guys and hurry up to Seattle.
I’m so conflicted…
Well–since Ben brought it up. . .our kitty died yesterday. Thailia found him on her bed. I gather from my BIG WIG DOCTOR FRIEND that this could be a cool genetic metabolic thing since3 out of 5 in the litter have died. . .I don’t want to check on the last two kitties. . .
In a couple of weeks we’ll adopt a good adult, no SKIDS (sudden kitten death syndrome), cat. Or sooner. There was mouse poop on my counter this morning.
ANYWAY–never trust ANYTHING with Genius in its name. My “Bum Genius” diapers are lovingly called “Dumb Genius” by all who have seen the baby pee come straight out–wet pants, dry diaper. Some kind of Genius!
We are rootin for you on the west coast!
Love the graph! See, that’s why I’ve bestowed this super cool blog award to you and Kelly and Sarah…you guys keep me giggling. And Ben, it’s ok for her to flirt with the U-Haul guys
You have a great site here! Thanks for your comment on my blog. What started out as a random Sunday funny turned into the typical women getting up in arms war.
That is okay- I think it keeps the boredom out of our winter off season. This is the first time I have ever have a chance to check out your site- and I need to come more! This is really cool! Take care- Damie
Nice graph, Court…I love it. SO TRUE! It is so great to read a post like this – so happy for you.
