On and Off the Wagon
Category: Neuro1, Nutrition53 | 6 Comments
I found myself running in the dark tonight. I wanted to do a 5-mile trail loop but I grew a brain around mile 3 and realized that a. I should have started my training whilst doing laundry, not afterwards and b. a dark trail run was a surefire way to get injured! WHICH, on the one hand, might be kinda cool because then my season would be over and I can start drinking and dancing 3.5 weeks ahead of schedule?
Who am I kidding though, for one thing I am still REALLY excited about my fourth and last half-IM of the 2008 season, and for another thing I have long since fallen off my sobriety and caffeine-free wagon ;) ...

Today was a Little Bit Dumb

Ugh.
So today I got to drive the 70-mile round trip to Reno twice, yep not once but twice. God.
This morning I drove to the Reno airport, to put my weekend visitor on a plane home :( .
Then this afternoon I called the Washoe County Registrar of Voters (located in Reno) to confirm that they had received my voter registration materials, since tomorrow is the last day to register. The lady said I wasn't in their system, she even checked "Courtney" and "Courtnay" just to be sure, but nope I wasn't there and I'd need to come register in person if I wanted to vote. And since there was no way I'd let laziness, tiredness, or 2 gallons of gas prevent ...

I had an amazing cyclocross ride yesterday, I did the first part of the Xterra course from the weekend (Tunnel Creek Road and the Flume Trail) and then went on to Spooner Lake. It was SO BEAUTIFUL, plus the rains and races over the weekend made for a nicely packed and fast trail... any of you NorCal 'crossers who want to head up here and ride with me, just let me know. I promise that you will not be disappointed!

Recovery Day

Yesterday I went to the Apple store down in Reno, which by the way is located at the very base of Mt. Rose in a shopping center called the Summit Sierra, a misnomer that really irritates me because I am a word nerd. So it serves them right that they built this enormous froofy shopping center but no one ever shops there. They should have named it more appropriately.
Anyhow, I spent about 5 minutes and $400+ dollars at the Apple store, but I didn't even come away with anything COOL to show for it like an iPhone! Just a charger, new battery, and external hard drive for my still-awesome 4 year old Powerbook G4.
Then I went to American Eagle Outfitters ...

I’m going to HAWAII! (again?!)

This is my somewhat cryptic way of informing you all that I WON the Xterra 10k today!! I am so excited!
The nitty gritty: I led from the gun, so I have no idea how many women were there or if any of them were any good. And if you are wondering about the outcome of the first debate of the day on Thursday: I wore my black Adidas running shorts that are too big, a long-sleeve Craft mock turtleneck base layer in Raspberry that my mom gave me last Christmas, my orange tempo trainers (appropriate for Fall), my Powerbar visor, Soap and Glory Sexy MotherPucker lip gloss, and my favourite ring. No earrings cause the ...

I'm venturing into NEW TERRITORY here with the blog, meaning: this post is not about me!!
Anyhow this was my favourite quote from tonight's Vice Presidential debate, (mis)spoken by Sarah Palin of course. She meant to say McCain is the man we need to lead but I prefer what she initially said. He's the man that we need to leave. And please can he take Sarah with him.
After watching the whole thing, I am even more fervently an Obama-Biden supporter, if that is even possible. But I can see how McCain-Palin supporters, for example my sister, would remain Palin supporters after tonight. She did not fall flat on her face, she did not appear clueless, and she mentioned her ...

On Saturday I am running a 10K Trail Race.
Thing 1: I have not run a 10K (aside from ones within a triathlon) since October 7, 1990.
Thing 2: CHECK OUT THIS WEATHER FORECAST!!!!

This is going to be sooo awesome!
But, what do I wear?? All you runner folks, help! Shorts? Thin tights? What? And does it matter if I don't have trail running shoes? Do I wear tempo trainers or lightweight racers or regular trainers or what?? Also, numbers... do I put my number on a race belt or do I pin it on my clothes? But what if I race in a sports bra and tights? Omg this outfit part is WAY more stressful than the race part. I ...

Whoa it’s been forever…

Well, not really, only like 48 hours since my last post, but usually I have something "interesting" to say on here at least once a day. Between playing catch-up from 3 weeks of traveling plus a weekend in the Bay Area, getting FREAKED OUT ready for my upcoming move, and putting in solid training hours in preparation for Silverman, I'm feeling a bit worked.
On top of that, today and yesterday I have been scaring the crap out of Kitty with my obsessive-compulsive cleaning. I am hosting an athlete for this weekend's Xterra National Championships taking place right here in Incline Village, and heaven forbid he think I am messy or my carpet is dirty or there is a ...
