I had an amazing cyclocross ride yesterday, I did the first part of the Xterra course from the weekend (Tunnel Creek Road and the Flume Trail) and then went on to Spooner Lake. It was SO BEAUTIFUL, plus the rains and races over the weekend made for a nicely packed and fast trail… any of you NorCal ‘crossers who want to head up here and ride with me, just let me know. I promise that you will not be disappointed!

Hmm…I’m not sure if I should admit this (although you very clearly already know about my lack of fashion sense) but I didn’t know the rule about the sunglasses OUTSIDE the helmet straps and I fear I’ve been doing it wrong for the past 2 years. This is what blogging friends are for! Thanks Courtenay! :)

By the way…beautiful pictures. It’s simply amazing where you live!

I LOOOOOVE those pictures and that is why i LOOOOOOVE Tahoe! So glad you are finally capturing and enjoying all its beauty. :)

And thanks for the sunglasses tip…I didn’t know that either…whoops…

well, to be fair, the sunglasses-outside-the-straps thing doesn’t work well during a triathlon because usually you keep your glasses on when you run right?

but for cyclists, omg you have to put them on the outside. you just have to. and after a long day in the saddle, it feels better on your ears and head to have the glasses with a little buffer thanks to the strap. AND, it’s better aesthetically, because you have the two parallel horizontal lines of the helmet and glasses, uninterupted by the vertical of the strap. and to take it a step further: this is why your helmet and glasses need to match. pink helmet requires pink glasses frames, etc.

lemme know if you need any more silly useless tips ;)

actually i rode pretty much the whole thing by some miracle! damian and his friend mario came up behind me during one of the hairy parts before the required dismount, so i rode with them and just started talking away and next thing you know we were at marlette lake and damian was like you rode over WAY narrower stuff just then than the stuff that you were scared of before. it was awesome.

    you should come up!

i am so disappointed that there is no Xterra here next year :(

Simply stunning scenery…wow. I had not idea it was just a drop dead gorgeous trail! This goes on my list of “must do” things in 2009. Lovely photos too Court…such an artist.

Hmmm, I agree that glasses-over-straps is the correct style for serious riders and looks better than under, even though I wear mine under usually (so I can quickly fling my helmet off when bees go in there).

However, I’m not sure if you’re in a position to be calling the fashion shots with all that sticky junk on the front of your helmet! Goof-Off would probably clean that up in a hurry, unless it’s some kind of triathlete badge of honor thing that I’m not aware of…

Nice pics of a fun day, I miss the Sierras in the fall!

Beautiful! I’ve always harbored a secret desire to Cross riding… your pictures are SO beautiful! Looks like a great ride!! Hope the legs are recovering well. Oh – and the glasses tip – yes, I wear my glasses on the outside of my helmet straps for long rides… but under for races. :)

I have a question regarding glasses positioning during the winter months when you might wear a hat or head band to keep the ears warm. First, I recognize that such attire’s fashion quotient might be questionable, but surely, on those freezing cold days, what the else are you going to do. My question is, on those days, do the glasses go in or outside of the helmet straps. Because on the outside, there is no ear to hook them onto, and I find myself feeling even more dorky in this set up, but I am a slave to fashion, and I will do whatever you say. Please advise.
