The hot ones know they are hot
Category: quotables | 6 Comments
Today I learned from some real-live 21 year old boys why the social scene here in Incline is weak. It's because the girls are "really stuck up, and there aren't that many of them, so the hot ones know they are the hot ones and they won't talk to you, but like in Santa Barbara the girls are all hot and they talk to you."
They also told me I "don't look that old" so that was cool, but clearly since I definitely do talk to people, I am either too old or insufficiently hot to be counted as an Incline girl. I am O.K. with that.
I'd write a better/longer post but I am way busy here on the couch, working ...

Kelly says this is why she will never un-friend me no matter how many times I bug her about how does my hair look and does she hate me, because I always win things (and I am good at sharing things I win with her, like visors and backpacks and beer money at the ball game) and because I know everyone. She came to my cyclocross race yesterday, where I won $100 for fourth place (?!?!) and I was apparently talking to ALL the spectators, during the race, and she heard a lot of "go Courtenay's!". Kelly was impressed, I can tell.
And I am enjoying this newfound security in our friendship.
So now I'd like to share a ...

Photos from the race in Portland last weekend are up... Kelly and I could be tied for saddest finish-line photo, appropriately enough about 2 seconds after my sad photo was taken I was escorted over to the med tent where I plopped down next to Kelly. They gave us Gatorade.
Anyway basically the lesson here is I feel WAY CUTER and FASTER in a Splish suit, like what I raced in at L.A., than I do in my regular tri suit. Not to knock Voler, I mean it's not their fault I look ...

For all of you who obsessively follow my Schedule page: thing 1, I finally updated it, and thing 2, Silverman! It's my last triathlon of the season, my race plan is also dotted with some cyclocross and running races but really I am all about Silverman right now. It's on Sunday, Nov. 9.
I'd assumed I would just drive down there like last year, but 500 miles driving alone before and after a race seems like a really stupid idea. So, flight and rental car are booked... and I'll take care of the hotel pretty soon. Who wants to join me? It will be so fun! My travel partner requirements are pretty light...

Puppies and No Pants in Portland

My camera cable is still gone (although if that is the ONLY thing I lost during my whirlwind of travel over the past 3 weeks, I'd say I got off pretty easy!) but today at Radio Shack I bought one of those card-reading jump drives, it was only $13 and I can just plug in my memory card from my camera. Way easier than a cable. Radio Shack's employees are retarded though.
Oh but before I get to the photos: Yesterday I met world-champion-mountain-biker-turned-Xterra-pro Shonny Vanlandingham, who is up here for a couple of days' training in preparation for next week's Xterra National Championships here in Incline. She is super cool! And I'd say we are about the same speed at ...

Nationals Report – The Short Version
Category: my favourite, triathlon: views from the front lines | 12 Comments
I'm sitting here in Incline trying to come up with the best way to condense all of the weekend's cool news and reportage into a decent blog post. This is feeling especially hard because a. I am still tired and b. I am really aware that my blog was WAY BETTER AND INTERESTING-ER back when I was a bike racer. Check out most of 2007 in the archives if you don't believe me. So, this post was supposed to get me back on the better-and-interestinger track but I dunno. Here goes...
First off, I won the bike! Fastest male and female bike splits at USAT Age Group Nationals won a new Blue Triad TT frame as well as an ...

I’m going to USAT Nationals!
Category: enjoy the blog | 9 Comments
That's what it is called right? Or AG Nationals? Either way, that's where I'll be this weekend!
TOTAL last minute decision inspired by Rachel during our super long hard swim together yesterday, and I am really excited! Today has been a whirlwind because I flew home from Hawaii overnight and was doing internet on my cell phone to try to figure out if the trip was even possible, because today is the registration deadline so I couldn't dilly dally like I usually do, but woooo decision made and I am all signed up!
Anyone looking for a roommate and/or rental car share-r at the 11th hour?! I'm super nice and fun :D !

Hawaii Update and more Photos
Category: cool stuff, family | 3 Comments
Warning... we are all mostly clothed in this series, no beach bum photos! Today we did not go to the beach, instead we visited our sister Meghan who lives on the Hilo side, in Ookala. It was incredible, I am so impressed by her lifestyle. Her house is solar-powered, she put in the panels herself, as well as the plumbing and the water catchment system. There is an ancient Hawaiian trail dating back to the 3rd century A.D. that goes right behind her house, once a month near the new moon she hears the Night Marchers and their drums. So then we talked about ghosts for a while... It was an awesome day!

More Hawaii! And Round 2 of photos…

WELL, I just had to step in from the beach and let you all know how much FUN I am having ;) . Really I am actually - I consider my brother and my little sister to be pretty much my best friends in the world, but we only get to see each other a couple of times a year since Nathaniel lives in Honolulu, I live in Tahoe, Sarah (Scare) is either at Dartmouth or in Colorado or "learning spanish" in Bogota, and then our mom Sal is in Maryland... so it can be a real challenge to get everyone together. Thankfully for us, Sal is a masterful social secretary and logistician! So Scare and I have ...
