Sometimes I like to compose fake emails/blogs/comments... "Dear Everyone: Guess what??! Blah blah blah I am great because i did this great thing and LOOK at my CUTE KITTY etc etc blah. Love, Me" Today I am like "Dear Everyone: Stuff. From, me" It's a yucky week, not sure why but I am not finding anything to be compelling. It's not that I am crabby because I am tapering for 5430 next weekend, in fact I am not even tapering yet, not till the weekend. It's not that my weight-loss blog experiment failed, in fact I got on the scale this morning and I seem to be at my goal of 115 lbs. So that's pretty cool. It might have something to do ...
This weekend I took my cyclocross bike down to the Bike Warehouse in Reno for a little/big tuneup. The bike has had over a year off, and bikes are like cars, they do better when they are in action than when they are on a wall or in the case of my Luna upside down and wheel-less in a storage closet... Poor little bike! As if that weren't enough, I just figured out that I accidentally donated my Sidi 'cross shoes to the Norcal High School Mountain Bike league during my moving-out-of-Oakland frenzy last fall - I had one pair of black road Sidi's, one pair of black ...
Our next door neighbor has a man-friend over. They made dinner and are sitting on her porch eating and, from the smell of it, smoking cigarettes. They are talking about stupid stuff in tones of voices that indicate we are very early in the dating relationship, like maybe second date, I am trying not to pay attention because I don't feel like getting annoyed at their poor flirting skills but it's hard. Speaking of dates, last night Greggy-greg and I went to see The Dark Knight. This was my first Batman movie since Michael Keaton was the star, so it's been a while... like sixteen years! The movie was awesome. I want to see it again. In a theater for the ...
Yesterday I headed to nearby Markleeville, CA for a bike race, the Diamond Valley Road Race. It was a last minute decision, I kept changing my mind about what seemed like the best idea for the weekend, getting up at 6 to drive an hour to a bike race or get up at 6 to try and ride around the lake before the droves of SUV's dragging boats and sporting "I <3 My Carbon Footprint" bumper stickers (seriously I have seen these...) took over the roads. I am not sure why I had any internal debate about this, because just like a few weeks ago when I raced Leesville, the choice was actually pretty obvious. Race! I loved this ...
Raley's has corn for 50 cents an ear (is that cheap or expensive? I don't know but I should, after many summers in Maryland where you get your produce at the farm stand) so I got some and shucked it last night so Greggy-greg, the resident chef, could cook it. I couldn't remember if you put it in boiling water, or you put the corn in cold water and then turn on the stove, and it was too late to call my mom who would have made fun of me anyway for such a silly question. So kitty and I shucked the corn and waited for Greg to ...

So, this week's measurements are almost identical to last week's - I might weigh a little less but I don't have a fancy digital scale so I hesitate to measure half-pounds and the like. So, here we go for this week: Weight: 116 lbs Waist: 64 cm Left Quad: 52.75 cm I have been training a lot this week and last, and I have definitely depended on Lean 1 to get me through the day without being seriously starving. This week, work has been really busy and I have been unable to take my customary nap between work and my afternoon workouts, I have just plowed right through the day, but I haven't felt drained or incapable of intervals or anything ...
This is Night Train, recent winner of the I Love New York Grand Prix as well as the Grand Prix of Devon. He's a little guy, only 15.1 1/3 hands (one hand equals 4 inches for all you non-horsefreaks out there!), this puts him a good 4-6 inches shorter than most of his competitors. Yet look how high he jumps - there's like 3 feet of air between him and the 5 foot high jump! What a talent. SPEAKING of training, I am doing it. This morning I swam with Greg and Seth, actually I swam "alongside" them since both of them are way faster. ...
Today I experienced Costco for the first time in my young life. I had to drive down to Reno to meet my boss at Costco and pick up some stuff, since I have a company membership card I got to go inside. I know this is not the case with everything they sell, but: what is the need for all the packaging?! You can get the totally awesome razor I got this weekend with not two but ten replacement cartridges for some great low price as long as you are willing to tear through 5 square feet of non-recyclable plastic which is encasing two square feet of printed cardboard that is framing the plastic razor and it's 10 plastic ...
So I am back home after a lovely little Sonoma training camp weekend. It was going to be a solo camp, since it was pretty last-minute, but I wound up spending a lot of the weekend with Kelly. It was totally fun, and not just because she listened to my silly stories. Anyway I already blogged about the Friday activities, then Saturday I went to Petaluma to swim long course, I got there and there was a huge age group swim team (with no less than FOUR coaches on deck!) taking up all but 1.5 lanes and being ridiculously fast and young. I always get sheepish in these scenarios because a. the kids are ridiculously fast and young ...
