Tonight I narrowly avoided napping, and I made my way to Northstar Village (about half-way between King’s Beach and Truckee) to watch the final stage of the Tour de Nez. It was a circuit race through Northstar, 22 laps of a 2 mile loop full of hills, turns, and even some “cobbles”. I told Roman that he needed to win again since I missed his win on Thursday’s stage, and he did not disappoint!!! He won 2 of the 5 stages during the course of the week, and earned the green sprinter’s jersey too! It was so much fun to watch, he was so strong the whole time and he made the win look easy. He also made it look like he has learned to sort of sprint
. And if you listen hard, you can hear my “go roman!” squeaks in the video…
It was so awesome to hang out with a bunch of old (and a few new!) bike racing friends after the race. My main complaint about living at Tahoe is that I feel so lonely, and tonight I got a great dose of the camaraderie I have been missing so much. I caught up with longtime-friends Sarah B., winner of today’s inaugural Tour de Nez women’s race (which of course I missed seeing because I didn’t read the bit on the website about how parking was a 2 mile hike from the race course… oops) and Amber, and got lots of hangout time with Roman and the Health Net crew, as well as a few Strawberry boys and some Bissell’s. Tom Zirbel confirmed my long-held suspicions that he is one awesome dude.
I came home a little bit ago, after the phrase “strip club” had gotten tossed around just enough times to motivate me homewards. I am totally not opposed to strip joints per se, but Reno strip joints?? I’ve seen Reno’s population clothed and that’s usually scary enough.
Oh, and there was a really cool double-rainbow in the sky right after the men’s race started:![]()
